Tickets at $50 each remain available for a mayoral gala honoring Paul Winfield on Friday.

Proceeds will be used to help the new mayor pay down some of the debt he incurred during the campaign, said Marie Thompson.

Thompson, who worked on the Winfield campaign and has since been hired as the city’s director of policy and intergovernmental relations, said a number of noted guests are expected to attend the gala and entertainment will be provided.

The Warren County Democratic Party is hosting the event, at Rainbow Casino from 7 to midnight. Thompson said the hope is the party could defray as much as $10,000 to $12,000 of Winfield’s campaign debt.  A week before the general election, Winfield’s campaign reported receiving $56,373.99 in contributions, some of which he put in.

Winfield won the June 2 election — his first bid for public office — over two-time incumbent Laurence Leyens by taking 61.6 percent of the vote.
