Clara Christine Powell died Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at River Region Medical Center. She was 81.

Mrs. Powell was a resident of Baldwin for 38 years before moving to Vicksburg seven years ago. She attended Bovina Baptist Church and had been a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of Baldwin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Cmdr. Jack W. Powell; her parents, Nettie and Edward McRae; two sisters, Irene Burnham and Mary Blanche Spenser; and three brothers, Cleveland McRae, Curtis McRae and James McRae.

Survivors include two sons, Johnny L. Powell of Elba, Ala., and William Gary Powell of Birmingham, Ala.; four daughters, Clara Annette Wood of Sherman, Sandra Fay Morgan of Ellorree, S.C., Glenda Jackson of Vicksburg and Yvonne Marie Steward of Brandon; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Jess Sumrall officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Brian Parker, Jerry Stuart, Russell Standish, Percy Worley, Charles Hill, Bill Arrington, David Thweet, Chris Camp, Brian Camp, Michael Jackson, Jason Hall and Frank Johnson.
