Stars crush M-Braves|Minor league baseball

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Mississippi Braves’ team-record seven-game road winning streak is no more.

The Huntsville Stars blasted the M-Braves 8-2 on Monday night after the Stars plated runs in the second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings to secure the win.

Jason Heyward tripled and scored the game’s first run with two outs in the top of the first. That was the last lead the Braves held.

The Stars took the lead with a two-spot in the second. Jonathan Lucroy doubled and scored on a Lorenzo Cain single to tie the score and Cain scored on a single by pitcher David Welch.

Kevin Melillo led off the third with a triple and Cain drove him in to put the Stars team up 3-1. Yohannis Perez singled and scored on an error by Brandon Hicks in the fourth and Drew Anderson singled and scored on a fielding error by Eric Campbell in the fifth.

Matt Young scored the M-Braves’ second run on a groundout by Jason Heyward in the seventh.

Tim Gustafson got the start and gave up five runs, three earned, on seven hits in five innings. Jeff Lyman gave up three runs in 1 2/3 innings.
