Two more teens were arraigned Monday on murder indictments for a shooting death in March.

Kersey Young, 17, 1115 Adams Lane, and Roosevelt Dewayne Harris, 18, 1803 First East St., are accused of shooting 25-year-old Antonio Turner while he was in a car parked on Alcorn Drive in the Rolling Acres subdivision around 1 a.m. March 15.

A third defendant, Gemini Porter, 16, 2501 Culkin Road was arraigned Friday.

Porter and Young remain out of jail on bond, while Harris has been held without bond in the Issaquena County Jail since the shooting. Harris was already out on a bond after being charged with sale of a controlled substance when the homicide occurred, said District Attorney Ricky Smith. At his arraignment, a bond hearing was set for Aug. 21 for Harris.

Eight defendants were arraigned Monday, with arrest warrants issued on nearly 30 others facing indictments who failed to check in at the beginning of the grand jury session last week, Smith said. In the August term, grand jurors who met last week reviewed evidence in 113 cases against 124 individuals, returning indictments in 101 of the cases and issuing 12 no-bills, deeming not enough evidence to prosecute. Since the indictments were issued, defendants have been appearing in court to formally hear charges and have trial dates set.

“We had a page full of warrants we had to issue,” he said. “There are always some who fail to show up for their arraignment but this is a lot more than usual.”

The cases of four other Vicksburg teens accused in a series of armed robberies against pedestrians were not presented to the August grand jury, Smith said.

Sha’Kayla Caples, 18, 414 Ford Road; Deshawn Williams, 17, 119-B Elizabeth Circle; Jacorey Wright, 16, 1405 Locust St.; and Blake Reed, 17, 2501 Culkin Road Apt. G8, will likely have the evidence against them considered at the final grand jury session for 2009, which begins Oct. 26 with Circuit Judge M. James Chaney presiding.

Also indicted and arraigned Monday were:

• Joe Allen Brent, 28, 2751 Fonsylvania, possession of precursor substances, March 26.

• Michael Dewayne Davis, 21, 2503 Franklin St., Apt. A, possession of a controlled substance, June 19.

• Rajesh Dyron Ellis, 21, 802 Reed St., shooting into an occupied dwelling, May 24.

• Eddie Flowers, 18, 221 Henry St., aggravated assault.

• Armad R. Stewart, 23, 1400 Bowmar Ave., shooting at a motor vehicle, March 2.

• Derrick James Turner, 25, 401 Pleasant Valley, accessory after the fact, April 12.

In coming months, the indictments will be resolved with pleas, trials or assignment to Warren County Drug Court as the most frequent results.
