Bowmar getting fit

Brooks Boolos, left, 12, gets help doing sit-ups from Karley Whittington, 9, and Bowmar Elementary physical education teacher Susan Mims. The three were learning Monday how to use a new fitness course at the school. Though the equipment was installed at the end of the 2008-09 school year, students had to wait to use it until they were trained by Mims and Leslie True, center, from Project Fit America, which provided the grant for the equipment’s purchase. Brooks is the son of Todd and Tammy Boolos, and Karley is the daughter of Daryle and Tracy Whittington. Meanwhile, at Bovina Elementary, new swing sets were being used by students this week. The school, reopened last year, had been without playground equipment for the 2008-09 academic year. Students, at the start of school last week, were waiting on the finishing touches. Fundraisers are planned to purchase more equipment. (Meredith Spencer*The Vicksburg Post)
