Sylvia Maureen Seay Smart

HATTIESBURG — Sylvia Maureen Seay Smart, 78, of Hattiesburg, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at home surrounded by family.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Graveside services will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery of Vicksburg at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, with Monsignor Patrick Farrell officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Durst, Donnie Smart, Joe Gerache, Paul Schroeder and her grandchildren.

Maureen graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy and retired from Waterways Experiment Station. Maureen and her family lived for many years in Vicksburg before relocating to Hattiesburg in 1998. Maureen was an excellent cook and gardener, as well as an avid bridge player.

Maureen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard T. Smart; brother, William S. Seay; and parents, Sylvia Roseberry Seay and Maurice S. Seay.

Survivors include five children, Michael (and Dana) Smart of Flower Mound, Texas, Sylvia (and Bill) Wislocki, Kathy Smart and Becky (and Doug) Montague, all of Hattiesburg, and Tommy (and Mary) Smart of Robins, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Adam Wislocki, Lauren Smart, Doug Wislocki, John Michael Smart, Kelli Cefalu, Austin Griffith and Jessica Smart; one great-grandchild, Will Wislocki; sister-in-law, Barbara Seay of Brooklyn, N.Y.; stepmother, Wanna G. Seay; siblings, Donald Seay and Connie Mardis; four nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and -nephews.
