A Vicksburg native has been selected by Athlon Sports to compete in the second round of its Sideline Spirit Contest.

Anna Taylor, 21, is an Ole Miss Rebelette. She will represent the school in the Southeastern Conference category of the college Bowl Championship Series. The contest, for college cheerleaders and dancers, features four rounds of competition. Votes can be cast through a valid Facebook account. The winner will advance to the championship round, where an overall winner will be named. She will be featured in the 2010 Athlon Sports College Football annual, and her squad will receive $2,000, a JVC HD Everio Camera and a JVC Micro System with an iPod dock.

Voting begins at midnight Saturday and ends at 11:59 p.m. Oct. 9.

Taylor, the daughter of Dr. Glen and Liz Taylor of Vicksburg, is a 2006 graduate of St. Aloysius High School.

All County Reunion scheduled for Oct. 17

The annual All County School Reunion will kick off at 10 a.m. Oct. 17 at City Park Pavilion on Lee Street.

Former students of Culkin, Redwood, Jett, Old Oak Ridge, Bovina and Jeff Davis schools are invited. Admission is $5 per person, and guests are asked to bring a covered dish.

Dr. Zarr to perform for Make-A-Wish

Women’s Hospital in Jackson will host its third annual Peace Love & Wishes party to benefit the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.

Entertainment will be by Dr. Zarr’ Funkmonster, a 1970s and ’80s cover band that frequently performs at Ameristar Casino.

The event will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 3 at Sparkman Auditorium inside the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum, 1150 Lakeland Drive. Tickets are $30 per person or $55 per couple.

Lorelei Books, located downtown on Washington Street, will host two book-signings in October.

John Hailman will sign copies of “Thomas Jefferson on Wine” at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 22.

John A. Allen will sign copies of “Fried Green Zombies,” a novel set in his native Warren County, at 4 p.m. Oct. 31.
