Navigating Post archives not so tricky

I’ve always believed that in another life, I easily could be a teacher. Since taking over as the Web guru at the paper — something certainly not worthy of the monicker guru — I have become the student again, trying to decipher html codes, data feeds and links. It has proven quite the challenge, but as I learn the readership learns as well.
That being said, I want to be a teacher today because the same problems are continuing daily and it centers on one word — archives.
The Vicksburg Post archives are available for the past few years only. Early on, the site was very limited, so finding a story about little Suzie’s being in homecoming or anything else from, for example, 2002 will prove difficult.
Complete archives are available from about 2007 until present day. Many readers, though, are finding it difficult to navigate the archives. It is easy to remedy, however.
Class, take a seat in front of the computer, log on to vicksburgpost.com and please, no gum chewing.
• Click on the “Archives” link on the homepage.
• If Suzie was in homecoming court within the last two weeks, type Suzie in the “enter search words” box, then click on “perform search.” Only the past 14 days of articles will be searched. For older articles, use the advance search. The “advance search option” is written in blue. Click it.
Enter “Suzie” again in the “enter search words” box, then type in a date range and Suzie’s name will appear. If the name “Suzie” has been in more than one article, all will appear, so a bit of scrolling may occur, but Suzie’s information is there.
That’s all one needs to know on how to find an article in the archives. The class has ended. Good luck with the archives.
Now that you have conquered archives, take a moment to visit this site — xbox.childrensmiraclenetwork.org/. Three children’s hospitals around the nation will receive a video game room from Microsoft Xbox. Voters will decide which three hospitals will receive the game room.
The children in these hospitals are facing a most uncertain future battling terrible diseases. Any reason to put a smile on these kids’ faces is a worthwhile one indeed.
It costs nothing to vote and currently the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson is in the lead by a fairly wide margin. Consider it your first Internet Class Service Project.
Passing grade? One burst of laughter from the new game room.
