A Vicksburg teen was charged with armed robbery early this morning after a man delivering milk to a public school was held up at gunpoint.

Bernard Smith, 16, 3011 1/2 Green St., was arrested at 5:35 a.m., about 10 minutes after police received a report of an armed robbery at Grove Street School, 1315 Grove St., said Vicksburg Lt. Bobby Stewart.

When arrested, Smith had a gun, a Ruger .22 target pistol valued at about $350, that had been reported stolen from a vehicle in the 3200 block of Washington Street on Aug. 29, Stewart said.

“He took the victim’s wallet containing a debit card and identification and fled on foot toward First North Street,” Stewart said.

Smith was picked up at First North and Clay streets after police noticed his clothes fit a description given by the victim.

Smith, who also was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, remained at police headquarters late this morning without bond pending an initial hearing.
