Vicksburg Warren School Board of Trustees agenda items

Meeting Thursday, the school board:

• Accepted donations for Vicksburg Junior High School: $50 from Best Value Rental, $25 from The Klondike, $25 from LD’s Kitchen, $25 from Fred’s Barber and Beauty Salon, $25 from Randy Naylor, and $50 from River Terrace Property for the boys’ basketball program; benefiting Warren Central High School: an anonymous donation of $4,100 for the baseball program in memory of Charlie Phillips; and benefiting Sherman Avenue: $750 from Exxon Mobil to purchase science resource kits for the library.

• OK’d amendments to the 2009-10 and 2008-09 budget.

• OK’d extra-duty compensation for August; recommendations to fill classified positions, substitute teachers, mentors, tutors, certified staff positions, requests for salary supplements, special education salary supplements, change in status for classified staff positions and federal programs personnel salary supplements.

• OK’d out-of-state travel for Vicksburg High School Mississippi River class to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ mat-sinking unit in October; Warren Central Intermediate School staff to attend the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional conference in Boston Oct. 21-23; Bowmar Elementary staff to attend the Educator’s Symposium on Accelerated Learning in New Orleans Jan. 28-30; Sherman Avenue Elementary staff to attend a seminar in Memphis Oct. 27; Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant director and staff to attend a required New Grantee meeting in Washington, D.C., Nov. 2-4; GATES (gifted and talented) students to attend the Louisiana Renaissance Festival in Hammond, La., in November; and third- and fourth-grade Redwood Elementary School GATES students to visit the New Orleans Aquarium and Insectarium Oct. 22.

• Authorized the request for bids for athletic letter jackets for the 2009-2010 school year and bids for the purchase of football equipment for the 2010-2011 school year.

• Approved a school bus turnaround request at 1602 Murray Road; disposal of surplus capital assets; the school and district test-security plan; and a private transportation contract for a special needs student.
