Arson suspected in Crawford fire

Vicksburg firefighters responded three times Monday to reports of fire at a vacant house, and Fire Inspector Leslie Decareaux said the case is being investigated as an arson.

The interior of the house at 1314 1/2 Crawford St., which is owned by Tracy Kent, address not given, “was fully involved” when firefighters arrived the first time, at 5:43 a.m., Decareaux said.

At 11:45 a.m., firefighters returned after a report of a piece of wood burning in the yard next to the building.

Decareaux said the wood reignited after the sun dried it during the morning.

At 2:52 p.m., they were dispatched again, this time for smoldering embers on the roof, she said. Decareaux didn’t say how long she expected the investigation to take.
