Callie E. Rivers, formerly of Vicksburg, died Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was 82.

A homemaker, Mrs. Rivers was a member of Gospel Temple M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Johnny Rivers Sr.; her son, Lawrence Elmore; and her parents, Jonas and Hannah Jones Elmore.

Mrs. Rivers is survived by three sons, Countee Elmore of Vicksburg, Johnny Rivers Jr. of El Paso, Texas, and Tommy Rivers of Forth Worth; three daughters, Clara Reynolds of Vicksburg, Panola Rivers of Fort Worth and Johnnie Mae Ware of West Palm Beach, Fla.; three brothers, Jonas Elmore of Gary, Ind., Issac Elmore of Ben Harbor, Mich., and Johnny Lewis of Edwards; five sisters, Margaret Sims of Gary, Mary Gaddis of Vicksburg, Lula Perry of Harvey, Ill., Gertrude DeMartini of Willits, Calif., and Elizabeth Lucas of Pittsburgh, Calif.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Grove Street M.B. Church with the Rev. Carl James officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with family present.
