Mary Barnes Miller

Mary Barnes Miller died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at Promise Hospital. She was 85.
She was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She was retired from Westinghouse Corp. where she was a union steward for many years. Mrs. Miller also was a former member of the Moose Lodge, the Battlefield CB Club and several local flower clubs. She was a member of Goodrum Baptist Church.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph O. Barnes Sr. and Nellie Smithhart Barnes; her husband of 69 years, William B. “Buddy” Miller; and her sisters, Ellen Barnes Kethley, Katherine Barnes Biedron and Thelma Barnes Husbands.
She is survived by one son, Billy Miller Jr. of Vicksburg; one daughter, Jean Ann Miller Alford of Minersville, Pa.; one brother, Joseph O. Barnes of Virginia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home, with burial following at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon until the hour of service.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Sullivan, Wendell Sullivan, Alton Miller, Shallar Miller, Joseph “Joe” Miller, Michael Alford, Christopher Alford, Mary Rose Miller and Bobby Miller.
Memorials may be made to the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society or the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
