Nancy Gilbert McManus

MONROE, La. — Mrs. Nancy Gilbert McManus, age 98, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009. Funeral services were at 11 a.m today at Carpenter United Methodist Church in Carpenter, Miss., with the Rev. Harold Manning officiating. Burial followed at Carpenter Cemetery. Visitation was from 9:30 this morning until the hour of the service.

Mrs. McManus lived in the Vicksburg, Utica and Carpenter areas for a number of years and had lived in Monroe, La., for the past 40 years.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was known as a hard worker and a helper to others. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. McManus was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Gilbert Sr.; and brothers, Billy Bonner and Edgar Hicks.

She is survived by her husband, Charles McManus of Monroe; her daughter, Joyce Christine Vance of Utica; her sons, William L. Gilbert of Ridgeland, James E. Gilbert Jr. and Ray L. Gilbert of Utica; her sister, Josephine Jones Bennett of Rayville, La.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were John O. Gilbert, Henry H. Vance Jr., Ricky Vance, James G. Gilbert Jr., Johnathan Gilbert and Brett Caldicot.
