Alva Cook

Alva Cook died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at his home. He was 77.

Mr. Cook lived in Vicksburg for many years and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He served for 20 years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Harlen Cook of Vicksburg; three sons, Dave Cook and wife Rachael, Kenneth Wayne Cook and wife Fabiola L. and Michael A. Cook and wife Silvia, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Eugene Cook of Huntsville, Ala., and Randy Cook of Vicksburg; a sister, Elsie Buhs of Bartonville, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Revs. Billy Brumfield and Francis Vriesen officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Justin Cook, Kiel May, Scott May, Ken Cook Jr., Phillip Cook and Brian Cook.

Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. Walter Johnston Jr., Martin Newcomb, Steven Zachow and their staffs and Thomas Sunday school classes at Immanuel Baptist Church.
