City man returned to face burglary charge

A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail this morning after being extradited on Saturday from Illinois on a warrant.

Joseph Craig, 23, 711 New Orleans Ave., was arrested by Waukegan Police Department Sept. 10 after a traffic stop. He was held there until he waived extradition Sept. 21, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Craig is accused of a burglary of an occupied dwelling in the 1400 block of Maulding Street on Sept. 24, 2008, Stewart said.

“He broke in and was confronted by the homeowner and fled,” Stewart said.

The homeowner suffered minor injuries after being attacked by Craig, and nothing was taken, Stewart said.

Craig was being held on a $30,000 bond.

County man held for old felony counts

A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County jail this morning accused of two felonies in 2005 and 2006.

Jeffery Martin, 25, 105 Dru Drive, was arrested at 7:04 p.m. Monday and charged with three misdemeanors, but held after records showed he had warrants for not showing up for court on charges of grand larceny in 2005 and auto theft in 2006.

He was held without bond today.

City lawn equipment reported stolen

The City of Vicksburg reported that lawn equipment valued at more than $1,000 was missing from the landscaping department Monday.

A Redmax weed trimmer valued at $200, A Stihl chain saw valued at $250, two Stihl leaf blowers valued at $300, a Waterloo toolbox valued at $100 and a Campbell Hausfeld air compressor valued at $200 were reported missing at 7 a.m. from a storage shed in the 3600 block of Patricia Street.

Separately, a Warren Central High School student reported a theft at the school at 3 p.m. Monday.

A Matrix cell phone valued at $250, a wallet valued at $5 and $20 were reported missing.

Auto burglaries, theft reported in city, county

Two auto burglaries were reported Monday and early this morning.

A Pioneer stereo valued at $150 was reported missing at 5:29 this morning from a 2008 Ford E-450 in the 1500 block of Walnut Street.

A Tom Tom GPS device valued at $250, a Pioneer CD player valued at $650, a Punch amplifier valued at $400 and two 10-inch JL speakers valued at $300 were reported stolen from a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado that the owner said sustained  $20,000 in damages. The crime occurred in the 6500 block of U.S. 61 North.

Separately, an auto theft was reported at 9:23 a.m. Monday from DiamondJacks Casino & Hotel, 3990 Washington St.

A 2006 white Toyota 4-Runner, Louisiana tag PES 573, valued at $12,000 was reported missing.

Gun, liquor missing in city, county

A residential burglary was reported in the city this morning.

A 380-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun valued at $280 was reported missing at 3:45 a.m. from a home in the 100 block of Pemberton Street.

Separately, a residential burglary was reported in the county Monday.

Liquor valued at $300 was reported missing at 8:03 a.m. from a home in the 400 block of Sea Island Drive at Eagle Lake.
