It was an unusual event when the two men met on May 22, 1937, at the surrender monument in the Vicksburg National Military Park and clasped hands. On the left is John C. Pemberton III, and on the right is Col. U.S. Grant III, the grandsons of the top generals in the Siege of Vicksburg. The photo, a post card, is from the Old Court House Museum collection.
