Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Josh “Winky” Freeman Jr. of Vicksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Lana Claire, to Robert Dale Morgan Jr. Mr. Morgan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dale Morgan Sr. of Vicksburg.

Miss Freeman is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William David Smith III of Houston, Miss., and Mrs. Hugh Josh Freeman Sr. and the late Mr. Freeman of Natchez.

Mr. Morgan is the grandson of Jerry Peden Hill and the late George Edward Hill of Holly Springs and Augusta Mae Morgan and the late Sam Pole Morgan of Morgantown.

The bride-elect is a 1999 graduate of Vicksburg High School, where she was a cheerleader and homecoming maid of honor. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Sub-Debs, Vicksburg Cotillion Club and Rebelette service club.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and a Master of Education in educational leadership from the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Phi Mu fraternity and Phi Kappa Phi honor society. She was a Top 10 campus beauty.

Miss Freeman is a kindergarten teacher at Bramlett Elementary in the Oxford School District.

The prospective groom is a 1995 graduate of Warren Central High School, where he was a 3-year letterman in football and baseball. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the 1994 5A State Football Championship team.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in education and a Master of Science degree in education from Mississippi State University, where he was a 4-year member of the SEC academic honor roll. He was a 4-year football letterman and a member of the 1998 SEC West Champions, 1998 Cotton Bowl Champions and 1999 Peach Bowl Champions.

Mr. Morgan is a teacher and offensive coordinator at Starkville High School in the Starkville School District.

The wedding will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 19, 2009, at First Baptist Church of Vicksburg. A reception will follow at the B’nai B’rith Literary Club. All relatives and friends are invited to attend.
