A new era of Warren Central basketball starts tonight.

New WC girls coach Jackie Martin-Glass will make her home debut when she leads the Lady Vikes against Port Gibson at 7 p.m. in the Vicksburg-Warren Tournament. The game, at Warren Central, is one of 20 that will be played at Warren Central and Vicksburg High this week as the high school season begins in earnest.

Canton and Forest Hill start things off at 5 p.m. today with a girls’ game at Vicksburg High. Vicksburg’s girls take the floor at 6:30 against Wingfield, while across town 30 minutes later Martin-Glass will coach her first home game for Warren Central.

Martin-Glass is in her first season as her alma mater’s head coach after spending the past five as its ninth-grade coach. Martin-Glass was promoted in July to replace Donny Fuller, who resigned after 19 seasons at  WC to take over Gulfport’s program.

Natchez is also participating in the tournament, but won’t be in action until Thursday against the WC-Port Gibson winner.

On the boys’ side, the host Vikings and Gators will play a round-robin against Canton, Wingfield, Port Gibson and Natchez. WC opens tonight at 8:30 against Port Gibson, while Vicksburg faces Natchez at the same time.

Although Warren Central will play one tournament game at Vicksburg — Saturday’s finale against Wingfield at 12:30 p.m. — it will not meet its archrival. The Vikings will play Natchez on Thursday night. Vicksburg draws Natchez, Canton and Port Gibson.
