Armed robbery reported at Mutual Credit’s ATM

A man was robbed at gunpoint this morning at a Mutual Credit Union ATM on South Frontage Road, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

The victim reported two men approached him with a handgun and demanded cash. He gave them $40 and his wallet before they left, Stewart said.

“After being robbed, (the victim) called his wife and advised her of the robbery. She then called the police at 6:24 a.m.,” said Stewart.

The victim did not report the crime himself because he was trying to catch a flight at the Vicksburg/Tallulah Regional Airport.

No injuries were reported.

Body wash heist lands man in jail

A Vicksburg man was arrested at Fred’s store on Halls Ferry Road, for third offense shoplifting, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Willie James Smith Jr., 50, 1515 Main St., is accused of taking a bottle of Caress body wash valued at $3.29 and a bottle of Olay body wash valued at $3.89, Stewart said.

The items were recovered, and Smith was being held without bond at the Issaquena County Jail.

Fight between women leaves both injured

Two Vicksburg women were injured during a fight at their home, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Laken Magee, 24, 204 Hills of the Valley, was taken to River Region Medical Center at about 3:37 a.m. with third degree burns to her face and neck after her roommate, identified by police as Jenece Grant, 19, threw hot water on her, Stewart said.

Police arrested Grant for aggravated domestic violence at 5:27 a.m. after she was treated for a cut on her left shoulder, Stewart said.

Grant told police that Magee cut her after she threw the water on her.

Magee was transferred to another facility, and Grant was released from River Region, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.

Guns reported stolen from unlocked vehicles

Guns were reported missing from four unlocked vehicles in Warren County, records showed.

A Ruger Mark II handgun valued at $300, a Savage bolt action .22-caliber rifle valued at $100 and a Marlin 22 Magnum rifle valued at $300 were stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of Hometown Road at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

At 10:56 p.m. Saturday, a Taurus .357-caliber handgun valued at $425 and a Mutual Credit Union checkbook were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 200 block of Ironwood Drive.

A Hi-point .40-caliber handgun was stolen from the glove box of a Toyota Tundra in the 300 block of Still Drive at 12:48 Friday afternoon.

At 11:13 a.m. Friday, a .45-caliber handgun was stolen from the console of a Ford Ranger in the 1600 block of Redbone Road.

Guns, trailer missing in city burglaries

Guns and a trailer were among items reported missing in Vicksburg, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

A .22-caliber gun valued at $200 was stolen from a home in the 300 block of Falk Steel Road at 5:39 a.m. today.

An LG cell phone valued at $300 and a touch screen iPod valued at $300 were reported stolen from a 2008 Mazda 626 in the 1300 block of Mulberry Street at 3:25 a.m. today.

An Eagle American Tandem Axle utility trailer valued at $1,500 was stolen from the 1600 block of Cherry Street at 10:53 a.m. Monday.

Three people injured in two accidents

Two Louisiana residents were injured in a two-car accident on U.S. 61 South at 8:41 a.m. Monday.

Willis Boone, 91, and Daisy Boone, 64, of Newellton, were taken to River Region Medical Center.

Daisy Boone was transferred to another facility, and Willis Boone was treated and released, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.

A Vicksburg woman was injured in a two-car accident at 4:54 Friday evening at Clay Street and U.S. 61 North.

Edna Brooks, 36, 117 Emerald Way, was treated and released from the River Region Medical Center, hospital spokesman Allen Karel said.

No other wreck information was available.
