According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, the semi, driven by Matthew Savage of Toledo, Iowa, was traveling east on I-80 and was in the process of completing a pass of a white Dodge van driven by Charles Reiner Jr. of Fraser, Mich., when it struck the van in the side.

Both drivers lost control of their vehicles upon contact. The crash resulted in the semi traveling down the ditch embankment and coming to rest on Wells Ferry Road. The van ended up in the south ditch.

No one was injured in the crash.

Wells Ferry Road was blocked by the semi, shutting down the road until 8 a.m.

Reiner was cited for failure to have valid license for operation of a motor vehicle and no insurance accident related. Savage was cited for following too close.
