Yvonne Coonce Ball

TANNEHILL, La. — Yvonne Ball 74, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009. She was born on April 29, 1935, in Holly Ridge, La., to the union of Bradley Talbert Coonce and Henrietta Higgs Coonce.
Mrs. Ball was an avid gardener. She also loved to work in her flower beds, where she grew the most beautiful day lilies and perennial Hibiscus. She would raise an abundance of vegetables and fruits to share with all her family each year. She delighted in making various kinds of jelly, and her specialty was May haw jelly. “Granny,” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was an excellent cook. Granny always let her grandchildren help her in the kitchen, where she would teach them her treasured family recipes. Yvonne raised chickens for enjoyment. She would let all her grandchildren choose a chicken and give it their very own special name.
Yvonne worked 13 years for TG&Y in Vicksburg and The Old Home Place for a number of years. She was an excellent seamstress and found great pleasure in making clothing, curtains and quilts. Yvonne also embroidered and crocheted.
Yvonne was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church until she moved to Tannehill after her husband’s retirement. They both joined East Winnfield Baptist Church. She enjoyed worshiping the Lord and helping others through her cooking talents.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Swanson Ball; her parents, Bradley and Henrietta Coonce; her brothers, Erno, Everette Ray and Elbert (Joe) Coonce.
Mrs. Ball is survived by her sisters, Yvette Gambrell of Farmerville, La., and Ynes Rodriquez of Galveston, Texas; and brother, John Bradford Coonce of Dodson, La.
She is also survived by her daughter, Mary Denise Mitchell and husband, Joey, of Vicksburg; her son, the Rev. Jerry Wayne Ball and wife, Shari, of Lexington, Ky.; her son, Col. Jonathan Talbert Ball and wife, Karen, of Pineville, La. She is also survived by her grandsons, Dr. Dustin Shea Allen and wife, Magan, of Ocean Springs, Michael Dane Mitchell of Vicksburg, Joseph Michael Mitchell III and wife, Jessica, of Raymond, and John Dennis Ball and wife, Lauren, of New Orleans. Her granddaughters are Chelsea Elise Ball, Samantha Lynne Ball, Mackenzie Nicole Ball of Lexington and Ashley Denae’ Ball of Pineville. She has two great-grandsons, Dylan Shea Allen and Colby Dustin Allen of Madison.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Shea Allen, Dane Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, John Dennis Ball and Kyle Potts; and her nephews, Michael Rodriquez and Joseph Rodriquez of Galveston.
The family will receive friends Friday at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, La., from 5 until 9 p.m. The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Southern Funeral Home, which is located at 202 East Lafayette St., with the Rev. Greg Carroll officiating. Interment will be held at Newton Baptist Church Cemetery in Delhi, La.
