Joan W. Minor

Joan W. Minor died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 77.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Minor received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Alcorn State University and a master’s degree in elementary education from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe. She taught in the Vicksburg-Warren public schools for more than 50 years.

She was a lifelong member of Mount Heroden Baptist Church, where she was organist for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denise D. Minor; and her parents, Hazey and Calantha Barnes Winston.

Survivors include her husband, Joe Minor of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends, including members of the Scott, Minor, Cross, Ragan, Murphy, Jackson and Barnes families of Vicksburg; the Norris Family of Rolling Fork; the Trass family of Lake Providence; the Jones and Burnette families of Chicago; and the Wright family of Camden, Del.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
