Homelessness is real

I have had the opportunity to volunteer at the Mount of Faith Ministries Women’s Restoration Shelter serving the homeless women and children of our area. It has been quite an eye-opening and pleasant experience.

I have been through some rough times, but never without a place to live, sleep, eat or take a bath. Nor have I ever had to spend a night sleeping in an abandoned house, parked car or under a bridge.

It is hard for me to imagine that homelessness could happen to anyone, but in today’s world homelessness is a form of terrorism. It can quickly take and diminish all you have before your very eyes.

In such economic crises, thankfully, we live in a community of many caring people working individually and collectively through our local agencies to help those who find themselves in such unfortunate circumstances. Our shelter not only furnishes shelter, clothes and three healthy meals daily, it offers assistance, relief, restoration and hope.

As a volunteer, I was surprised to learn how easy it is to help by just giving one or two hours per week.

Homelessness is a growing problem in Vicksburg. Others in Vicksburg can help bring hope and relief. Call the shelter at 601-661-8990.
