Riverfest 2010 organizers have extended until Dec. 15 the deadline for the T-shirt logo contest.
Artwork is to be mailed to P.O. Box 1144, Vicksburg, MS 39181. A $200 cash prize will be given to the winner. Organizers are also seeking sponsors and vendors for the event set for April 16-17. Visit www.riverfest.com for more information.
Animal rescue group focusing on holidays
A Vicksburg group is hosting events to ensure that animals have good holidays.
Southern Paws Rescue of Vicksburg is seeking donations of food, treats and toys for dogs, puppies, cats and kittens for their annual Christmas party at the Vicksburg City Animal Shelter. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 23 at Vicksburg City Animal Shelter, 100 Old Mill Road; Belvedere & Co., 3150 S. Paws Rescue of Vicksburg has teamed up with Petfinder.com for the national Foster a Lonely Pet for the Holidays program.

Fitness center owner featured in magazine
A Vicksburg fitness center owner has been featured in an online article of Glamour, a woman’s fashion and beauty magazine.
Linda Fondren, owner of Shape Up Sisters and head of the Shape Up Vicksburg challenge, and her weight-loss challenge was the focus of the article titled, “Health Inspiration: This Woman Wants to Help Her City Lose 17,000 Pounds!”
In October, Fondren challenged Vicksburg and Warren County to lose 17,000 pounds in 17 weeks. She has joined with local businesses to offer nutritious menus, free exercise sessions and weigh-ins.
