Net metering needed

You can produce electricity from your property, but it won’t do you much good in Mississippi.
Net metering is the option to have electricity generated by utility customers on their property with the capability to “sell” excess electricity to the utility company. Solar and wind electricity systems for residential installation are more affordable and available than ever before.
Net metering is state law in Louisiana, but not here. Mississippi is one of only six states that does not have net metering laws and guidance.
Entergy, our local electricity provider, is well aware of all the capabilities of net metering. Readily available and affordable electricity are key to economic development.
In addition to the expansion of Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, it would be wise to add the option of net metering in Mississippi and take advantage of our solar and wind energy resources. Local, state, and federal government representatives should be working to get net metering in Mississippi.
