Term limits the first step in overall simplification

Published 12:00 am Sunday, January 3, 2010

I have never been one to favor term limits because I thought the power of the vote could serve that purpose. But after the actions of Congress and after having listened very closely to some of the term-limits argument, I now believe it is time for term limits and no such thing as career politicians.

Career politicians were not the intent of the founding fathers. I have been using the term politician very loosely; they are more like prostitutes (being politically correct) than politicians. They are being put on view and then they will sell themselves to the highest bid.

1. I believe each state should recall its senators and representatives and not allow them to run for re-election.

2. Senators and representatives would then be elected to serve one term, could not run for re-election for one full term and could not run for another office while holding an office.

3. The state they serve would set and pay their salaries and allow them to have one secretary to answer the phone and prepare letters. This would eliminate 2,000-page bills and reduce each bill to four or five pages. Plus, they could no longer vote themselves raises. This would also cut out all of various staff members we now pay for.

4. As state employees, they would be covered under the state insurance group and retirement plan.

5. The federal government would give each candidate the same amount to campaign, so no one would have a great advantage. There would be no outside donations, so no promises would be made.

6. There could be no lobbyists and officeholders could be recalled if they accepted money or gifts from an outside source. Just imagine how much money companies could save and have to use to open new plants or expand existing plants, thus creating jobs.

I am not preferring one party over another. They are all full of prostitutes with prostitutes-in-training working in their staffs. I wish we would open elections so we could vote for the person who would best represent and present American ideals and interests.

I believe that these changes could be worked into the state level also.

I am for anyone who wants to clean up fraud in government and will not become part of the fraud.
