John E. Bonar has been named senior vice president for commercial lending and retail banking for Britton & Koontz Bank in Vicksburg.

Bonar has 39 years of banking experience. He was executive vice president of the former First National Bank of Vicksburg. Most recently, he worked for Trustmark National Bank, where he was senior vice president and senior credit officer for 18 community banks in the Trustmark system.

Bonar has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio State University.

He was an active duty officer in the U.S. Navy for four years.

He is a member of the Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce and is a past chairman of the Pacesetters’ division of United Way of West Central Mississippi’s annual fundraising campaign.

Bonar is a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, where he has served on the vestry and is chairman of the audit and nominating committees.
