WESSON — Perry Allen Smith died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 75.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College and Mississippi College. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, and retired in 1989 as a research physicist at Waterways Experiment Station. He was a resident of Utica and a member of Sylvarena Baptist Church in Wesson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Allen Smith and Ruby Roberts Smith; and one sister, Jan, of Wesson.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Countryman Smith of Utica; two daughters, Ann Smith-Rinehart of Utica and Renee Gray Murphy of Apopka, Fla.; two sons, Allen Dale Smith of Gloucester, Va., and Kirk Smith Utica; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services, directed by Brookhaven Funeral Home, will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sylvarena Baptist Church in Wesson. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service at the church.

Memorials may be made to the Sylvarena Baptist Church Building Fund, the Alzheimer’s Association or a favorite charity.
