This and that|Heart Walk leaders seek help with event

Organizers for the annual River City Heart Walk are seeking sponsors, teams, heart disease survivors and volunteers for the March 27 event at the Rainbow Event Center, 1380 Warrenton Road.

A Team Captain Kickoff  will be at 8 a.m. Jan. 28 at the Courtyard By Marriott, 1 Underwood Drive.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the walk will start at 9 a.m. The event will include children’s activities, entertainment and health and nutrition booths. Proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association.

Genealogists set upcoming events

The Vicksburg Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at Shoney’s.

The speaker will be Mary Ann Dotson, and her topic will be “Belle Boyd, Confederate Spy.”

Separately, the 2010 Mississippi Genealogical Society’s annual seminar will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Canton Multiplex Building on Watford Drive. The event will feature book vendors, and the speaker will be Thomas W. Jones, who has edited the National Genealogical Society Quarterly since 2002.

Coin, Civil War shows headed to Vicksburg

The 79th annual Vicksburg Coin Show has been set for February at Battlefield Inn.

Dealers will show their collections from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 6 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 7. Admission is free.

Also headed to Battlefield Inn is the 18th annual Civil War Show of Vicksburg. It will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 10.

The event will feature dug relics, weapons, coins, documents and memorabilia used during the era. Admission is $2.

Dealer tables are available for $35 each.

The World Famous Lipizzaner Stallions will be in Vicksburg next month as part of the group’s 40th anniversary tour.

Vicksburg pastor in online contest

An online video produced by a Vicksburg minister has advanced to the final round of the MonaVie Emv Youtube Contest, an online competition open to U.S. and Canadian product distributors.

Raggy Ragsdale, a MonaVie distributor and minister of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church, entered the contest by writing a song about the healthy effects of MonaVie, a health drink, and produced a video, “Doesn’t Toy Around,” which includes a cast of 25 Vicksburg residents.

Votes for the final round can be cast by visiting www.monavieonthemove.com beginning Saturday and running through Jan. 30. Ragsdale’s video can also be seen on at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuP5ia7-vHo.

The winner will receive an Emv Smart Car. The second place prize is a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the third place prize is $1,000.

Money expert, author set for book signing

Ridgeland author Nancy Lottridge Anderson will sign copies of her book Jan. 23 at a downtown Vicksburg bookstore.

Anderson, president of an investment management and financial consulting firm, will sign copies of “Tough Talk For Tough Times: Real Conversations For Real People about Money” at 2 p.m. at Lorelei Books.

She is also a co-host of “Money Talks,” a radio show on Mississippi Public Broadcasting, and an assistant professor of finance at Mississippi College.
