“Remembering a Friend,” features interviews with students from St. Aloysius High School talking about Kyle before and after his death.

Kyle, who was 18, had attended St. Al, where he was a member of the football and baseball teams. He was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in October 2008.

Kyle’s video garnered 33,688 votes for 66 percent of the total cast in the online voting, more than twice that of the runner-up.

The station’s Sports Story of the Year was announced Monday. WJTV’s Web site also features other videos about Kyle, including one with St. Al baseball coach Clint Wilkerson talking about Kyle’s impact on the school.

A story on the death of Jim Hill High School basketball coach Fred Harris, a former Vicksburg High basketball standout, finished second to the Coleson story.
