Gene Johnston

Gene Johnston died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at his home. He was 66.
Mr. Johnston was born in McComb and had lived in Vicksburg since 1971 and was a member of Highland Baptist Church. He was retired from the River City Rescue Mission as director and had worked for 29 years as general manager at Vicksburg Video Inc.
He was preceded in death by his father, Terry Lee Johnston.
Survivors include his wife, Doris M. Johnston of Vicksburg; one son, Clayton Johnston of North Carolina; one daughter, Melissa Tate of Vicksburg; his mother, Bernice Johnston of McComb; two brothers, Jimmy Alton Johnston and Gary “Peewee” Johnston, both of McComb; three grandchildren, Michael Johnston, Benjamin Barefoot and Chelsie Johnston; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Highland Baptist Church with the Revs. Brian Ivey and Michael Fields officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb with Glenwood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Michael Winters, Jack Curtis, Bill Flathau, Steve Bennett, Gene Allen, O.W. Mendrop, Earnie Hall and Jim Brannon.
Honorary pallbearer will be Freddy Abraham.
