The Vicksburg Art Association will host a two-day workshop by Mississippi artist Ellen Langford this weekend at the Firehouse Gallery, located at Main and Openwood streets.
Langford, who has studied at the San Francisco Art Institute and the Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy, will instruct an acrylics workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
She has also studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., and at the University of Mississippi.
She received her bachelor’s degree in religion from Colby College in Maine.
She also works as a paramedic.
Cost is $50 for Saturday or $75 for both days, plus a $10 fee for members and $15 for nonmembers.

To Vicksburg With Love set for Feb. 9 at SCHC
The fourth annual To Vicksburg With Love is set for noon Feb. 9 at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center.
Polish accordion player Janusz Szlubowska will entertain during the catered luncheon.
Szlubowska is the father of Mississippi Symphony Orchestra violinist Marta Szlubowska-Kirk.
He has performed at venues in Hungary, Poland and Germany.
Tickets are $12 per person. Reservations are required, and seating is limited.

Toddler with city ties in Parents magazine
The granddaughter of a Vicksburg couple has been named the Cutest Kid in the Universe by Parents magazine.
A photo of the then 7-month-old Abbie Whitton, along with a description of her likes and dislikes, is featured in the February issue of the magazine.
Abbie, now 18 months old, is the granddaughter of Rodgers and Veronica Coffing and the daughter of Terry and Candice Whitton of Walker, La.

Westside sets times for ‘Social Security’
The Westside Theatre Foundation will present “Social Security” Feb. 26-27 and March 5-6.
The shows, featuring a cast of local senior citizens, will be at the Coral Room at The Vicksburg on Clay Street.
