Hugh Patrick Southerland Jr.

Hugh Patrick “Bubba” Southerland Jr. died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at St. Dominic Jackson Memorial Hospital. He was 56.

Born in Shreveport, Mr. Southerland had been a Vicksburg resident since 1974. He was the son of the late Hugh Patrick Southerland Sr. and Walterine Bramlett Southerland.

He was a graduate of Captain Shreve High School and attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. He retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad as train master after 29 years of service.

Mr. Southerland was a member of the Baptist faith and the Bowmar Baptist Church small group Bible study.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Marie Southerland of Vicksburg; three sons, Matthew Southerland, Branan Southerland (Brooke) and Scott Hazzlerigg, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Lee Ann Stuart (Chad) and Hollye Hazzlerigg and fiance Joseph Quimby, all of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Madison Hardin, Jack Stuart, Sam Stuart, Natalie Southerland and Grace Hazzlerigg; two sisters, Carol Lewis (Morris) of Shreveport and Sharon Lothrop (Milton) of Gladewater, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, John Patrick Southerland and Lauren Olivia Southerland; and a sister, Patricia Wright.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Beaver Myers and Trey Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Randy Holder, Mike Davis, John Moody, Preston Moseley, Doug Tanner, Joseph Moore, Andrew Lewis and William Moore.
