Nine auto burglaries reported in county; guns, cash hot

Weapons and cash were among items missing in nine auto burglaries in Warren County Tuesday morning.

On Mount Alban Road:

• A .38-caliber Taurus revolver valued at $450 and a Colt Commander .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun valued at $1,250 were reported stolen from a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado in the 300 block at 6:18 a.m.

• A Sonic hearing device valued at $200 was reported stolen from an unlocked 2002 Chevrolet Silverado in the 300 block at 10:05 a.m.

• About $30 was reported stolen from an unlocked 2008 Pontiac Torrent in the 1200 block at 8:02 a.m.

• A Smith & Wesson .357 revolver valued at $650 was reported stolen from an unlocked 2001 Chevrolet Silverado in the 600 block at 12:45 p.m.

In the 100 block of Camden Drive at 9:15 a.m.:

• An Olympus camera valued at $500 was mising from a 2007 Ford pickup.

• A gate opener was reported stolen from a 2005 Ford F-150.

• Nothing was reported missing from another vehicle that had been entered.

• A Makarov 9mm handgun valued at $100 was reported stolen from an unlocked pickup in the 200 block of Airline Road at 8:24 a.m.

• An unlocked Cadillac in the 100 block of Choctaw Circle was reported entered with nothing missing at 8:41 a.m.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said information was being gathered to see how many might be related.

Stolen pickup targeted in mailbox vandalism

A pickup recovered Tuesday morning was believed by county and city officials to be used to knock down mailboxes in Vicksburg Monday night.

The 2002 Chevrolet Z-71 carrying a Yamaha ATV was reported stolen in the 100 block of Hoxie Road at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said. The owner told authorities that the vehicle might have been taken in the night.

Vicksburg police Sgt. Beverly Prentiss said four boxes were reported knocked down in the 100 block of Buena Vista Drive at 5:27 a.m. Tuesday, and another was reported toppled in the 300 block of Enchanted Drive.

When deputies broadcast the description of the vehicle on their radios, they found the pickup had been spotted in the same areas, Pace said.

Deputies found the vehicle damaged and parked next to a vacant house in the 200 block of Buena Vista about two hours after being reported stolen, Pace said.

City man charged with stealing gas

A Vicksburg man was arrested at his home Tuesday in a 2008 grand larceny.

John Henry Morgan Jr., 50, 2954 Arcadia St., is accused of stealing $1,075 in natural gas from Vicksburg Water and Gas, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said. The theft was reported June 24, 2008.

Morgan was released from the Warren County Jail at 6:53 p.m. Tuesday on $2,500.

Three home burglaries reported in city

Electronics were reported missing in three home burglaries in Vicksburg, police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

A Gibson air conditioning unit valued at $150 and a PlayStation 3 valued at $399 were reported stolen from the 1000 block of Meadow Street at 12:24 p.m. Tuesday.

An Xbox 360 valued at $399 and 19 games valued at $40 each were reported stolen from the 1500 block of Bodley Street at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.

A purse valued at $30, $16 and an LG flip phone valued at $100 were reported stolen from the 1100 block of Markham Street at 3:51 a.m. today.

County man held for drug court

A Vicksburg man was in the Warren County Jail for drug court violation, records showed. Richard Lee Birge, 42, 4425 Lee Road, was being held without bond.

2 city men injured in Grange Hall wreck

Two Vicksburg men were taken to River Region Medical Center after a wreck at Grange Hall and Dana roads Monday.

About 11:03 p.m., Bobby Comans, 31, 741 Dabney St., was headed west on Grange Hall when his 1997 Dodge Caravan crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutless driven by Jamarko Curry, 20, 5021 Rollingwood Estates Drive, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said. Curry was in good condition, and Comans was treated and released, spokesman Allen Karel said.
