Three in county jail on meth charges

Three Vicksburg residents were in the Warren County Jail for manufacturing crystal methamphetamine, records showed.

Kenneth Downs Jr., 45, 1315 Boy Scout Road, who was on probation for possession of precursors, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents searched the home of Michael Quentin Woods, 34, 2255 Freetown Road Lot 25, who was also arrested, according to Deloris Lewis, MBN public relations officer.

During the arrests Wednesday, officials seized two rifles, a handgun, a “shake and bake” lab, and meth precursors including camp fuel, ether, liquid fire and sodium hydroxide.

Arrested with Woods and Downs was Heather Williamson, 29, 60 Sally Willis Road.Woods and Williamson were being held on $45,000 bond each. Downs was being held without bond.

The arrests of Downs and Williamson were reported Thursday, but the charges were not made public until later in the day.

Texas woman held on forgery warrant

A Texas woman was arrested on Interstate 20 near Clay Street Thursday on a Tarrant County charge.

A warrant had been issued Jan. 10 for Evelyn Fields, 37, Fort Worth, after she cashed a $1,094.03 check in the county, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

Police found Fields was wanted during a traffic stop and recognized the vehicle from a crime bulletin. She was at the Issaquena County Jail awaiting  extradition.

Nissan reported stolen on Martin Luther King

A car was reported missing in the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Drive Thursday, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

At 4:15 p.m., a 1993 Nissan Maxima, Mississippi tag 738WBH, was reported gone.

Yard tools, keys missing in city

Yard tools and keys were among items missing in two city burglaries, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.

A Ryobi leaf blower valued at $89, a Ryobi backpack blower valued at $139 and a set of chrome rims valued at $1,500 were reported stolen in the 700 block of Johnson Street at 5:32 p.m. Thursday.

Two room keys were reported stolen from the Dixiana Motel, 4041 Washington St., at 12:17 this morning.

Hinds escapee caught near Eagle Lake

A Vicksburg man was arrested on Highway 465 near Eagle Lake Wednesday for escaping from Hinds County Restitution Center.

Derrick Jones, 38, had been convicted of felony failure to pay child support, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
