Edith Atkins

HOLLANDALE — Edith Atkins died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Lakeside Medical Hospital in Belle Glade, Fla. She was 57.

Ms. Atkins was born in Delta City, Miss., and attended Henry Weather High School in Anguilla. She was a former resident of Hollandale.

She had been a member of Sweet Home M.B. Church in Delta City, and later became part of No. 2 Crusade Church in Belle Glade.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Mae Riley and James T. Johnson Jr.; and three sisters, Lillie Riley-Davis, Mary Jean Riley and Mary Lee Riley.

She is survived by a daughter, Lakeshia Carter of Tulsa, Okla.; three sons, Izell Atkins of Rolling Fork and Ray Charles Atkins and James Atkins, both of Lawrence, Kan.; four sisters, Easter Dorsey and Peggy Adams, both of Hollandale, Nancy McCoy of Greenville and Shirley Riley of Vicksburg; five brothers, Clarence Atkins of Hollandale, L.A. Riley of Rochester, N.Y., Roger Hollingworth of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Larry Adams of Benton, La., and Sam Carpenter of St. Louis, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Mount Horeb Baptist Church in Hollandale. Burial will follow at Redmon Cemetery.
