Dr. S. Dewey Purser Jr., a retired dentist, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at his home in Vicksburg. He was 83.

Dr. Purser was born in the Yokena community and lived most of his life in Vicksburg. He retired after having practiced dentistry for 39 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Nicola Purser of Vicksburg; three daughters, Paula Watkins of Clinton, Lisa Reid of Vicksburg and Cindy Blair of Corinth; one son, Todd Purser of Vicksburg; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
