A while back I was asked to identify a place or a group of people who always make me happy. Almost instinctively I said, “United Way.” The fact is whenever I stop by to pitch in, or I am asked to participate in any way, I find that I receive far more than I am able to give. It just seems that everyone there is always enjoying themselves.

The other night I had the privilege of attending their annual awards banquet. Again, it appeared that each and every person who stepped up to the podium was overjoyed to be there — not because they were receiving an award, but because they were somehow receiving much more than they gave.

While other organizations that claim to serve have somehow abandoned their core values, United Way of West Central Mississippi continues to provide for those in most need and somehow they even provide for those of us who give.
