Outstanding volunteer

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Pam Piazza, volunteer for the Vicksburg Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. On Sunday afternoon, Pam called to tell me she was at the scene of a fire on Oak Street. The multi-family fire destroyed three homes, displaced 14 people and sent one adult and two children to medical facilities.

Pam worked tirelessly throughout the afternoon to ensure all individuals were provided with lodging for the night. She also delivered comfort kits to the hotel for each family member before going home.

Our community depends on the Red Cross in times of need, and the Red Cross depends on the support and dedication of our volunteers. Pam’s efforts are a true reflection of the humanitarian and volunteer spirit of the Red Cross in our community and around the world.

Pam’s generosity and support will ensure the Red Cross continues to be there with help and hope when people in our community need it most.

Many supported RTH

The 31st annual Run Thru History was a great success with close to 900 registered participants.

This outstanding community event would not have been possible without the support of the Vicksburg National Military Park. Though there are too many to name here, we owe a debt of gratitude to the many volunteers for their great effort and service, with special thanks to Belinda Edwards, Russ Tillman and the Vicksburg Amateur Radio Club, AmeriCorps, Bess Averett, Lynda Akers, Cynthia Douglas, Boy Scout Troop 638 and Mike Jackson and the Knights of Columbus.

We also want to thank the Vicksburg Police Department, the Vicksburg Fire Department and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department for an outstanding job ensuring safety to all participants.

Finally, we would like to thank our gracious sponsors, Barbara Judge and the Battlefield Inn, Ameristar, Anderson-Tully, BancorpSouth, Blue Bell Creameries, Carpet One, Cellular South, Falco Lime, Mississippi Track Club, May & Co., Pizza Inn, River Region, Southern Beverage, Trustmark, The Vicksburg Post, Vicksburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, Waring Oil and Wilcox Theatres.
