Emergency officials help Ruby Jackson, 78, of 530 Hugo St., out of her 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis after her husband, Herbert Jackson, 92, of the same address, apparently fell asleep at the wheel while heading west on Grove Street Monday afternoon. The car crossed the eastbound lane before striking a power pole and ending up in Stouts Bayou near Buck Street, said Vicksburg Police Officer Burt Ryan. Gladis Bingham, 89, of 1609 Grove St. was also a passenger in the vehicle. Bingham remained in River Region Medical Center overnight and was in fair condition this morning, a hospital spokesman said. Ruby Jackson was treated and released, the spokesman said. (Meredith Spencer*The Vicksburg Post)
