Grease fire destroys apartment on Grove

Flames from an unattended stove destroyed an apartment on Grove Street Wednesday night.
Vicksburg Deputy Fire Chief Mark Hales said the fire was ruled accidental.
The resident, Tyrone Williams, 2001 Grove St. Apartment 635, left his kitchen while grease was heating in a skillet, Hales said.
“That apartment received heavy fire and smoke damage,” said Hales.
An apartment downstairs from Williams’ home received water damage, Hales said.
No injuries were reported.
Sex offender held for Texas officials
A sex offender was in the Warren County Jail today on a Texas warrant for failure to register.
Robert Earl Roberts, 40, 234 Lovers Lane, was arrested at the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday while trying to register in Mississippi, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Deputies discovered he was wanted for not registering in Harrison County, Texas, before moving to Mississippi, Pace said.
The sheriff said Roberts cannot register in Warren County with an outstanding warrant.
He was being held without bond pending extradition to Texas.
Failure to return rentals jails man
A Vicksburg man arrested Tuesday for embezzlement under contract was charged this morning on a similar offense.
Randy Lundy, 53, no address given, is accused of not returning a Bosch electric hammer drill valued at $1,500 and a 3/4-inch hammer drill bit valued at $40 after renting them on Sept. 2 from Sheffield Rental Inc., 1255 U.S. 61 South, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
“The drill nor the bit have been recovered,” said Stewart.
Lundy was arrested Tuesday after being extradited from Milwaukee and accused of not returning a tractor valued at $20,000 after renting it Aug. 15 from The Home Depot, 50 Halls Ferry Park Road, Stewart said. The tractor was recovered in Transylvania, La., on Nov. 9.
Lundy remained in the Warren County Jail today without bond.
Vicksburg man jailed in residential burglary
A Vicksburg man was arrested Wednesday for a residential burglary reported in the 2000 block of Martin Luther King Drive Friday.
Marvel Hunter, 18, 1840 Martin Luther King Drive, is accused of breaking into a home and taking a purse containing $150 and an Xbox 360 game console, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said. The game system was recovered an hour after the burglary was reported.
After being identified by the victim, Hunter was arrested at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday while walking on Martin Luther King at Webb Street, Stewart said.
He was being held at the Issaquena County jail without bond because he had been out on two counts of statutory rape of a child younger than 14, Stewart said.
ACs, washer, dryer missing on Walnut
Appliances were reported missing in a home burglary in the 1900 block of Walnut Street Wednesday, Vicksburg police Lt. Bobby Stewart said.
At 1:22 p.m., three 8,000-BTU window air-conditioners valued at $499 each, a washer and dryer set valued at $600 total and a 55-gallon fish tank valued at $100 were reported stolen.
