An Edwards man underwent surgery Wednesday to have part of a knife blade removed after he was stabbed and the weapon broke off in his lower back, officials said.

Walter Jackson, 34, 1646 Betty Hamilton, was stabbed with a blade about 6 inches long while walking in the 1000 block of Meadow Street at about 1:04 p.m. Wednesday, Vicksburg police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.

Jackson’s condition was not available this morning, however, because River Region Medical Center spokesman Allen Karel said the hospital has no record of his being there.

An arrest in the stabbing was made minutes after the attack.

Levon Pinkney, 20, 807 Speed St., was arrested at Oak and Kline streets and charged with aggravated assault following a brief foot-chase with police, Williams said.

“The motive for the assault is unknown,” she said.

The weapon was found in a storm drain at Speed and Hunt streets, and Pinkney’s sister Shaquita Pinkney, 18, of the same address, was charged with accessory after the fact for moving the knife from the scene and dropping it into the drain.

She was released from the Warren County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

 Levon Pickney was held without bond at Issaquena County Jail.
