Three Warren County Jail inmates were charged with armed robbery Wednesday in an attack on another prisoner on April 13.
Deshawn Williams, 18, 780 U.S. 61 North Apartment 8D; Douglas Walters, 21, 1414 First East St.; and Micheal Robinson, 23, 1508 Ethel St., are accused of showing a shank — a homemade weapon — and taking an undisclosed amount of money, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said.
He said the weapon might have been made from part of an air vent.
“Thievery is an ongoing problem among inmates where cash is allowed,” said Pace. Inmates of the Warren County Jail are permitted to have up to $5 for use in the recreational room where they go once a day, he said.
The sheriff said he believes the victim had a larger amount, possibly because of a gambling problem at the jail.
Deputies are studying video footage and interviewing other inmates as part of their investigation, Pace said.
Initially, Williams was arrested in March and being held without bond for a residential burglary; Walters had been in jail without bond since September for felony eluding and a misdemeanor; and Robinson was being held on a $10,000 bond since February for a drug court violation.
Each of the three is being held on a $10,000 bond.
Clothing, electronics missing in burglary
Electronics and clothing were reported missing in a home burglary in Vicksburg, police Sgt. Sandra Williams said.
A 32-inch, flat-screen Panasonic TV valued at $400, an 8,000-btu air conditioner valued at $130 and a Charlotte Bobcats jersey valued at $50 were reported missing at 10:50 p.m. Wednesday from a home in the 1300 block of East Magnolia Street.
