Warren County’s baseball and softball teams are running from the rain.
Facing a forecast that calls for heavy rain and severe weather throughout the weekend, Warren Central’s baseball and softball teams have rearranged the schedules for their first-round playoff series.
The baseball Vikings will now play Game 1 at 3:30 p.m. Friday at DeSoto Central. Games 2 and, if necessary, 3, will be played as a doubleheader on Monday at Viking Field, beginning at 5 p.m.
The series had originally been on a Friday-Saturday-Monday schedule, with Warren Central hosting Games 1 and 3. A number of other teams around Mississippi have also rearranged their series schedules because of the forecast, which calls for rain to move in Friday afternoon and continue until early next week.
“It shouldn’t hurt us tomorrow there like it would here,” WC coach Josh Abraham said.
The Lady Vikes will still head to DeSoto Central for Game 1 of their series today, but the time has been moved up to 3 p.m. Games 2 and 3 will be played as a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
No changes have been made to the schedule of Vicksburg’s first-round series against Southaven, nor St. Aloysius’ series with Sebastopol.
St. Aloysius’ baseball team also has not made any changes. The defending Class 1A champions will play at Edinburg in Game 1 on Friday night at 6. Game 2 is set for Saturday at 4 p.m. at Bazinsky Field, and if a Game 3 is necessary it will be Monday night at Edinburg, weather permitting.
