3 teens escape injury after car plunges into ravine

Three Vicksburg teens escaped serious injury Friday when the vehicle in which they were riding plunged into a ravine on Monument Place around 3:45 p.m.

The teens were treated for bruises and cuts at the scene and did not require a trip to the emergency room, Vicksburg police officer Chris Williams said.

The driver of the Kia Optima, Kayla Geter, 17, 4920 Halls Ferry Road, Apt. 57, told Williams she lost control of the car when the brakes failed. Lauren Chisley, 16, 801 Bowman St., and Alan Jones 16, 1511 Spring St. were passengers in the car.

Geter was cited for no proof of insurance.

2 county men jailed on separate charges

Two Warren County men were in jail Friday night after being arrested by deputies around 1 p.m., jail records showed.

Michael Dixon, 38, 8380 Halls Ferry Road, was charged with obstruction of justice.

Robert Kent, 22, 4560 U.S. 61 South, was charged with possession of stolen firearms.

The men were arrested at Halls Ferry and Porters Chapel roads, but no other information was available. They were being held pending a bond hearing.

City woman nabbed on shoplifting charge

A Vicksburg woman was arrested Friday and charged by police with third offense shoplifting, Warren County Jail records showed.

Angela Beard, 36, 160 Calvin Road, was released on $5,000 bond.
