The 17th annual Vicksburg Chamber Choir spring concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church.
“The program will be a collection of 20th century choral work,” artistic director Sharon Penley said. “We’ll have some well-known composers like Randall Thompson, Samuel Barber and Eric Whitacre. This is probably the most sophisticated choral music we’ve done.”
The choir will perform Whitacre’s collection of five loves songs in Hebrew accompanied by Mississippi Symphony Orchestra’s string quartet.
Selections from Thompson include “The Last Words of David,” written while he was reading the Gideon Bible on his travels, and “The God Who Gave Us Liberty,” written from the words of U.S. President Thomas Jefferson.
The choir of volunteers will perform in the sanctuary of the church.
“We provide a venue for both amateur singers and the community to perform quality music as professional as possible,” Penley said.
Admission is free.
