. A non-profit program championed by The Vicksburg Post, NIE is a unique way for schools, businesses, and the local newspaper to work together in a partnership that benefits all of us, now and in the future.

Newspapers serve as a motivational and creative resource for all ages to explore many subjects. English, language arts, science, math and social studies are just a few subjects students can study with the aid of the newspaper. Numerous studies show that students who use the newspaper in the classroom on a weekly basis have higher reading, writing, and critical thinking skills than students who do not use the newspaper.

As a “living textbook,” the newspaper is the only up-to-date curriculum available; it is a resource that never ends because it is new and current everyday. Textbooks cannot keep up with the ever-changing developments in our world; newspapers can. The daily newspaper reinforces the academic textbook by linking yesterday with today.

The community also benefits from NIE. Not only can businesses and individuals help sponsor the program, they also are helping create informed citizens. NIE is a partnership between the community and its students, who are becoming part of its working population.

Please list below a couple of businesses with which you might have a personal contact who can lead us into a sponsorship relationship with that company or business. We will make the contact and necessary arrangements needed in order to get them on board with you, the students and us.
