Ameristar Casino Hotel Vicksburg has kicked in $10,000 to aid victims of the April 24 tornado, a company release said.

The money will go to the nonprofit Mississippi Disaster Recovery Fund created by Gov. Haley Barbour.

“Ameristar is proud to make this donation on behalf of its more than 800 Mississippi team members,” said Ray Neilsen, Ameristar Casinos Inc. chairman. “Many of our team members and guests have been directly impacted by this tragedy.”

Ameristar has worked closely with American Red Cross chapters and the Salvation Army to provide meals and nonperishable items to victims and emergency workers, the release said.

The fund was established as the state’s central clearinghouse for donations for aid beyond that provided by the government.
