I have lived in Warren County for 78 years, and have given Vicksburg merchants all my business. I do not go to Jackson shopping.

When I began collecting items to be auctioned off and food for a concession stand, I was turned away for reasons unacceptable — by Walmart and Kroger. The smaller stores gave all they could.

I also contacted The Vicksburg Post, and was promised four days of publication — but of course I got one. The Post has no competitor, so you get what they want you to have. We pay enough for our paper to be able to get some advertisement when needed.

I want to thank Rocky Springs Band for their entertainment and Gerald Cooper for his great job as auctioneer. Thanks to all who donated. May God bless those who helped.

Golf tourney good

The ladies of the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association would like to express their deep appreciation to Vicksburg and area individuals and companies for making this year’s Laveren Russell Invitational Golf Tournament a huge success.

The staff at Clear Creek Golf Course created a perfect atmosphere to entertain our out-of-town guests.

Vicksburg can take pride in this outpouring of support and generosity, showing once again that true Southern hospitality exists in our hometown.

Thank you very much.

Food drive bountiful

The letter carriers of the Vicksburg post office conducted their annual food drive the weekend of May 8.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the generous citizens of Vicksburg and the Warren County area for their outpouring of support. A total of 9,300 pounds of nonperishable food was collected. We would also like to thank The Vicksburg Post, WDBV and WRTM for their support. Thank you to Walmart for supplying the banana boxes.

We would also like to send out a special thank you to Barbara Tolliver and the United Way for their generous support. Again, thank you to Vicksburg and Warren County citizens. May all of you be richly rewarded.
